What an honor it was to work on this project. I never would have thought I’d get a shot to do something like this when I first started writing or when I contacted the Tony Sly Music Foundation For Kids.
Writing and illustrating Tony’s Butterflies was incredible. Not only did I get to create a fun book, I got to do it for one of my idols. Tony Sly was one of my two idols, up there with Dr. Seuss. I listened to Tony’s acoustic songs and to No Use For A Name (the band that Tony was the frontman of) all throughout high school. It has a tough message that I believe is more obvious for adults than kids, but it’s what we wanted to bring to the book. After speaking with Jon and Brigitte about where to go with the story, it was a joint decision to let some of Tony’s songs do the talking. Jon mentioned centering the story around “Keira” since the song was created as a lullaby. After a joint decision to let any of Tony’s songs influence the book, I began writing it. The rest I think might be kind of boring, so I’ll just leave it out and you can read the book to check out what came of all of this.
Months later and this has been one fun project that I still feel extremely honored to be a part of. So be sure to purchase your copy and check out what came of this project, but remember that all of the profits for every book will go to the Tony Sly Music Foundation For Kids so they can keep helping kids make music.
“I don’t even think a book could say enough for you.” No Use For A Name – For Fiona
I will be visiting two Ronald McDonald Houses this May. I will be visiting the Aurora, Colorado Ronald McDonald House on May 12th. Of course, I will be reading my books and giving away a number of copies of my books to some lucky kids that need some cheering up. On May 19th, I will be making my way over to the Denver, Colorado Ronald McDonald House and reading my books to them along with giving more copies away.
Not enough? I will be doing all of this with my fellow Colorado author, Joseph Caldara. The author for the chapter book series, “Bob and the Cyber Llama.” Go check out our books and be sure to support Ronald McDonald and all the families who are given a smile by his houses.
I will be heading to Antelope Ridge Elementary School for a book reading for 1st and 2nd graders on Friday, May 11th. Antelope Ridge is located in the Cherry Creek School District and I have a surprise for them! I will be giving away 5 C. Fulsty Books to 5 special kids and also reading 1 of my books, 2 if we have time.
I hope they’re excited!
There are two C. Fulsty’s characters hiding out in the book I’m illustrating, “Where Are Mommy And Daddy?” Be sure to keep your eyes open for them when this book comes out. Strato and Tock will be ready.
Here are some things I am currently working on.
– Tony’s Butterflies (99% complete)
– 8 pages and the cover illustrated for another book I’m donating to charity
– have a meeting on April 13th for a fundraising book event
– working on a school visit in May
That’s it for now, but lots more to come. Two books sitting off to the side to be illustrated this summer.
COMING SOON! C. Fulsty Books illustrators, C. Fulsty & Shanilee Fields, will begin hiding book characters in unrelated books. We decided to have more fun illustrating and wanted to give you all something more to make C. Fulsty Books even more fun to read.
I will begin working on a new website page that we will post all of the characters hidden and in which book they are hidden. Otherwise, you can try to find them yourself and check to see if you found them all at a later time.
SECRET: There is currently one C. Fulsty book out right now with a hidden character. Do you know which book it is? Do you know who the character is?
Tock the Rock, my first book ever. There are several copies floating around somewhere. Should I redo the book though?
I’ve been told by a few people that have read the book, that they liked it. I hated the illustrations because it was my first book, and I thought the story was meh. I made it no longer available because of this. More and more people are asking me to revise it and bring it back. What do you think? A story about a rock that doesn’t want to roll around like other rocks to get smooth and round. The other rocks are trying to get smooth and round so when they get thrown across the pond the skip instead of just sinking. At the end though, they all end up in the same place. Think it’s a good enough story to give another chance to? Care to see what happens to these zany rocks? Let me know!
We are working on a project to get a couple books of ours into hardcover. We have been in talks with Tattered Cover (a Colorado specific bookstore) to carry our books once they are in hardcover. We also have a few libraries who are willing to carry our books once they are in hardcover. The only issue with this project is it can’t start until we get more money to cover the cost for it. Like most people though, we don’t have any money to throw at this. Which puts us in this “fun” position of asking everyone for money. So here we go.
www.gofundme.com/cfulstyinhardcover is where we would love people to go donate for our cause or at the very least if you could share our GoFundMe we would be extremely appreciative. Maybe you can even check out the benefits of donating?
Tony’s Butterflies is a new book coming out soon that is my first “Donation Book.” The rights along with any profits will belong to the Tony Sly Music Foundation For Kids.
This is an important book to me because Tony Sly has been a big influence throughout my life. Tony’s Butterflies was made in collaboration with the Tony Sly Music Foundation For Kids drawing heavy inspiration from the song “Keira” with other inspiration from “For Fiona.” Both songs written by Tony Sly, the lead singer for the band No Use For A Name. I also wrote the book while listening to the Spotify playlist “Tony’s Butterflies.”
Don’t worry, the book is on it’s way. See if you can read it without shedding a tear. It’s a great story with some heart tugging undertones. Hope you enjoy it!
